EVOMS Supercharger Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What type of power will should I expect from the Supercharger? A: With the 3.4L engines, you will see a power gain of +110 HP and +90 TQ. With the 3.6L & 3.8L engines, you will see a power gain of +150HP and +120 TQ. Q: How much boost does the Supercharger make? A: All of out supercharger systems make 6 PSI of boost. Q: Is the kit intercooled? A: Yes, all of our supercharger systems are water to air intercooled. Q: Do I have to make any modifications to the body of the car to get the supercharger to fit? A: No, our supercharger systems are designed to be 100% bolt-on. That means that there is no need for any cutting, welding, or body modification needed to get the supercharger to install properly. Q: How long does it take to install the system? A: Each dealer will have their own interpretation of how long it will take them to install the kit. We stress to our dealers the importance of doing the installation right the first time. So we like to quote between 18 and 22 hours for the install. Q: What is included with the supercharger system? A: The included parts are: Vortec supercharger, intercooler, software tuning, fuel injectors, spark plugs, water pump, water pump lines, intercooler piping, mounting hardware, front bumper insert, K&N filter, coolant lines, diverter valve, CNC machined brackets, MAF housing, and individualized serial numbered plate. Q: Do I need to purchase anything else besides the supercharger kit to get the kit fully functional? A: No, the kit comes with EVERYTHING needed to complete the installation. Q: What type of supercharger is used with the kit? A: We chose to use a Vortec style, centrifugal supercharger system. We chose this type of supercharger because it delivers power in the same way as the stock system. That is important because the 996 / 997 motors were designed to handle power in a very distinct way. These motors were created to have high power output in the mid to high rev range. These motors were not designed to handle high amounts of low-end torque. If you choose a system that does not deliver power in the same way as the motor is designed to handle, you may experience shortened engine life, as well as abnormal wear and tear. Q: Do I need to change my clutch? A: No, you do not need to change out the clutch to get the system to perform correctly. However, depending upon how many miles are on the car, and the amount of wear and tear on the clutch, it may be a wise upgrade to do the clutch along with the supercharger. The stock clutch is capable of handling the power created by the supercharger. We typically recommend keeping the stock clutch until it goes out and then upgrading to a street / sport clutch system. Q: Do I need to change my brakes? A: The stock brakes are capable of effectively stopping a supercharged car. However, the way the car is driven will ultimately be the biggest determinant of whether the car will need aftermarket brakes or not. Q: Do I need to change my exhaust? A: No, you do not have to change your exhaust systems, but with any supercharger system changing the exhaust to a higher flowing sport exhaust system adds more performance. When you add a supercharger system you are forcing much higher volumes of air into the engine. At that point, it is recommended that a higher flow sport exhaust be used to expel the higher volumes of exhaust gasses created. This will increase the performance and safety of the supercharger system.
Q: Will the supercharger reduce my engine life? A: No, the supercharger will not directly reduce the life of the engine. However, there are many variables that are involved in an engines life. If the car is properly serviced and not abused, the supercharged motor will last as long as a non-supercharged motor. Q: Can the car still be serviced like a regular non-supercharged car? A: Yes, there are no extra service tasks that need to be done to service a car with our supercharger on it. The car should be serviced just like a regular Porsche. Q: What type of warranty is included with the Evolution Motorsports supercharger system? A: The kit comes with a 1 year limited parts warranty. Q: Is the supercharger system loud? A: No, our supercharger system is considered a quiet system. With any supercharger, you are going to get some increase in engine sound. However, our system does not have the loud, high-pitched wine associated with some supercharger systems.
